From the end of April until the beginning of July, I will be conducting fieldwork for my Master thesis in Juba, the main capital of the soon-to-be-independent Southern Sudan. The main goal of my research is to explore how the so-called 'street-level bureaucrat' (public sivil servants who interact directly with the citizenry during the daily work) responds dynamically to the challenges of a post-conflict society and building of a new state. Of course, next to my fieldwork I will also explore the country and society that is South Sudan. This blog will detail my experiences of living in South Sudan and my ramblings on doing research. Blogs will mostly be written in English, but do expect Dutch entries as well, 'cause one language is just boring ^^.

Fieldwork: the unique moments and challengesA twenty-something and generally happy-go-lucky person who wants to do so many things with so little time, and who simply has decided that you can also build up a career outside of the Netherlands. Because being adventurous is fun. Consequently, she has ended up in Mitrovica and now Pristina, Kosovo. 'Nuff said.
